How to Play (Instructions)

# Skoot rules of engagement

**Skoot** is a fast-paced, strategic card game for **4–42 players**

 Objective

Be the last player with 1 chip or be their cheerleader*

(Cheerleader picks winner after they are out)

**Face Card Powers**

**King**: Acts as a **Stopper** (blocks swaps) and is the highest rank. No chip bonuses or effects are awarded to **any** players in a round where at least one unique (no duplicates) King is held.

– **Queen**: If a player holds a solo Queen (no duplicates), they gain 1 chip.

– **Jack**: If a player holds a solo Jack (no duplicates), they may take 1 chip from another player of their choosing.

(Duplicates cancel powers—no effects.) FE.. 2 Kings would cancel & solo Queen or Jack would win out round and gain another chip

Player Breakdown and Multi-Deck Play

Skoot is primarily designed for **large groups**, encouraging exciting tournament-style play where players are divided into multiple simultaneous tables. Each table uses its own deck and follows the standard rules until winners emerge. Winners from each table then advance to a final “winners’ table” to compete for the overall champion. This format scales perfectly for parties, events, or big gatherings! Here’s how it would breakdown:

Divide players as evenly as possible into groups of 6 or 7. Example: For 36 players, form 6 tables of 6. Or 6 tables of 6 or 7 if 40+ show up.

| Total Players | Tables | Chips each I Winners /cheerleaders

|—————|—————————|————————————|

| 4–11         | 1 table  | 4 – 6 = 5chips / 7 -9 = 3chips/ 10 – 11 = 2 chips

| 12             | 2 tables of 6  I       5 chips        | 2 winners each to final 4

| 24             | 4 tables of 6  |        4 chips       I 1 winner each to final 4.

| 36–42        | 6/7 tables  6     |    4 chips        | 1 winner each to final 6 / 7

How to Play –

  1. Players sit around a table. (Name labels is a nice addition)
  2. Choose the first **dealer** (closest birthday to today).
  3. Each player receives appropriate chips
  4. Deal 1 card to each player face down clockwise . Place the remaining deck face-down with the dealer
  5. Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the dealer’s left (Player 1)
  6. Players can choose to either trade or not and next player must trade unless a King
  7. Dealer can accept final card or flip from the top of deck
  8. Lowest card not a duplicate throws in a chip. Solo Queen takes a chip from the middle If no solo King or Queen then solo Jack can grab a chip from anyone.
  9. Remember any matching value cards never loose but they also never win
  10. Dealer rotates to the left. Do not shuffle until you cannot play with remaining cards

What happens when you are out of chips? Are you hopeless?

No, we like to call this our “Jesus” rules..

Sacrifice –   Any player with extra chips can sacrifice one of their chips to keep another player in the game. You can only give and/ or  receive only once.

If no one can or will sacrifice, you can now choose the winner and be their cheerleader

Resurrection – If anyone is out of life (chips) then IF all remaining players duplicate and a King then the miracle is bring back whoever is dead back in the game with 1 chip. This also can only happen once in a game. If it happens again no one loses and play resumes with the next deal.  Also, if resurrected, cheerleaders start afresh

Final advice on playing with multiple tables: Although you may try to equalize everyone out to hopefully conclude around the same time, there are always slow players or side conversations, so we advise…

The “Nascar” rule :  Once most tables are done and you may still have 1 or 2 creeping along then institute the 3 lap finale. Allow only 3 more deals and the person with the most chips goes to the final table.

Large mixer parties are best with multi-color name labels (5 – 6 colors). Let players sit wherever they want in the 1st round, then “request” folks switch up by playing at new tables according to color code name labels. (Request since some folks like to stick with their own tribe) Most of all, just have fun!
