SKOOT RULES OF ENGAGEMENT

A fast-paced, strategic card game for 4–42 players

OBJECTIVE

Be the last player with 1 chip — or be their cheerleader. (Cheerleader picks the winner after they are out.)

FACE CARD POWERS

King card
KING
Acts as a Stopper (blocks swaps) and is the highest rank. No chip bonuses or effects are awarded to any players in a round where at least one unique King is held.
Queen card
QUEEN
If a player holds a solo Queen (no duplicates), they gain 1 chip.
Jack card
JACK
If a player holds a solo Jack (no duplicates), they may take 1 chip from another player of their choosing.

Duplicates cancel powers — no effects. E.g. 2 Kings cancel each other; a solo Queen or Jack then wins the round.

EQUIPMENT

Custom 56-card deck (per table): 4 each of 1–5, 7–12 in 4 colors (Cherry Red, Neon Green, Vivid Blue, Gold Accent/Yellow). Plus 4 Jacks, 4 Queens, 4 Kings.
Chips: 30 (not included — use poker chips, coins, candy, etc.)

PLAYER BREAKDOWN & MULTI-TABLE PLAY

Skoot is designed for large groups. Players divide into simultaneous tables. Each table uses its own deck. Winners advance to a final "winners' table" for the overall champion. Scales perfectly for parties, events, and big gatherings.

HOW TO PLAY — STEP BY STEP

  1. 1Players sit around a table. Name labels are a nice addition.
  2. 2Choose the first dealer — closest birthday to today.
  3. 3Each player receives the appropriate number of chips.
  4. 4Deal 1 card to each player face down clockwise. Place the remaining deck face-down with the dealer.
  5. 5Play proceeds clockwise, starting with the player to the dealer's left (Player 1).
  6. 6Players can choose to trade or not. The next player must trade unless holding a King.
  7. 7Dealer can accept the final card or flip from the top of the deck.
  8. 8Lowest card (not a duplicate) throws in a chip. Solo Queen takes a chip from the middle. If no solo King or Queen, a solo Jack can grab a chip from anyone.
  9. 9Matching value cards never lose — but they also never win.
  10. 10Dealer rotates to the left. Do not shuffle until you cannot play with the remaining cards.

SPECIAL RULES — "JESUS RULES"

SACRIFICE

Any player with extra chips can sacrifice one chip to keep another player in the game. You can only give and/or receive once.

RESURRECTION

If all remaining players hold a duplicate and a King, the miracle brings back whoever is out — back in the game with 1 chip. Can only happen once per game. Cheerleaders start afresh.

FINAL TIPS

  • If no one sacrifices, the out player chooses the winner and becomes their cheerleader.
  • The "Nascar Rule": Once most tables are done and 1–2 tables are still going, allow only 3 more deals — person with the most chips goes to the final table.
  • Large mixer parties: Use multi-color name labels (5–6 colors). Players sit anywhere in round 1, then switch tables by color code in round 2. (It's a request — some folks like to stick with their tribe!)
  • Most of all — just have fun!
